Privacy and cookies

This notice explains what information this website collects, why, and your choices. It covers the services that are actually running on the site today. If we add analytics, advertising or a shop, we will update this page first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before anything new is set.

Who we are

Mould & Mend is a UK website about condensation, damp and mould in the home, run by Mao and Sai. The data controller for the information described in this notice is Mould & Mend, the trading name under which the site is run; registered business details will be added here if the business incorporates or begins selling online. Cookies and similar technologies

At the moment this site sets no analytics or advertising cookies, and no cookie banner is shown because none is needed.

  • WordPress, the software the site runs on, sets cookies only for people who log in to manage the site, to keep them signed in.
  • Our caching plugin (LiteSpeed Cache) may set a cookie that tells the server not to serve a cached page to someone who is logged in or who has just posted a comment. Visitors who only read pages do not get one.
  • Our security plugin (Wordfence) may set a cookie for logged-in administrators and, in some situations, a short-lived cookie that helps tell a real visitor from automated traffic.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work for reading.

Information we receive

  • Emails you send us. If you email hello@mouldandmend.co.uk, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. We use it to reply and to correct our guides where you have pointed out a mistake. We keep correspondence for up to two years in case a query comes back, then delete it, unless it relates to a legal matter. Our email is provided by Google Workspace, so messages are stored on Google’s servers under Google’s terms.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider, Hostinger, keeps standard technical logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type, time of request) to run and secure the site. Pages may be delivered through Hostinger’s content delivery network. Hostinger holds these logs for its own operational period; we do not analyse them to identify individuals.
  • Security checks. Wordfence checks each visitor’s IP address and the pages requested, blocks traffic that looks malicious, and keeps security logs for a limited time. Wordfence’s own privacy policy covers what it processes.
  • Comments. Comments are switched off across the site, so nothing is collected that way.

We rely on our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving the site, and in replying to you, as the lawful basis for the above.

What we do not do

We do not use analytics tools, advertising networks, embedded social media widgets or tracking pixels. We do not sell or share your information with anyone for marketing. We do not process payment details; the site has no shop yet.

Our guides link to sources such as GOV.UK, the Energy Saving Trust and Historic England, and to the pages where stock photographs came from. Those sites have their own privacy notices.

Your rights

You have rights under UK data protection law, including to ask what information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to our processing it. Email hello@mouldandmend.co.uk and we will respond within one month. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

The site is written for adults dealing with their own homes. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this notice

When we add a service that collects information, such as analytics, advertising or a shop, we will update this page, change the date at the top, and add a cookie consent mechanism where one is required before the service goes live.
